MoveStory reads your steps from Apple Health. Check that it's allowed to: open the Settings app › Health › Data Access & Devices › MoveStory, and turn on all categories. Then open MoveStory again, or pull down on the main screen to refresh.
Also check the Health app itself (Browse › Activity › Steps). If it shows no steps for today, your iPhone or Apple Watch hasn't recorded any yet. MoveStory always shows the same numbers as Apple Health.
iOS lets apps update in the background about once an hour for step data, so the icon can be up to an hour behind. It updates right away whenever you open MoveStory. Make sure notifications are allowed for MoveStory, with Badges on, in the Settings app › Notifications › MoveStory.
An iPhone on its own records steps and walking distance only. Cycling, swimming and other sports are recorded by an Apple Watch workout, or by an app that saves its workouts to Apple Health (for example a cycling app). Once a ride is in Apple Health under Cycling Distance, it appears in MoveStory automatically. You can choose which activities count in MoveStory › Settings › Activities that count.
Instead of a fixed goal, MoveStory uses the middle of your last 30 days with steps. The faint band in the charts shows your usual range. MoveStory needs about a week of steps to learn it. Prefer a fixed number? Choose Settings › Goal › Fixed goal.
Both are always shown. MoveStory follows your region; to change it, choose Settings › Units.
Every activity you switch on in Settings › Activities that count gets its own filter in your history and Lifetime cards. Walk & Run shows your steps; All adds up the distance of every activity that counts. When you ride or swim, an inner ring appears inside the step ring, measured against your own usual ride or swim.
If your bike computer is set to a different wheel size or uses another speed sensor, open Settings › Cycling › Distance correction and enter the difference in percent (for example 2.5 or −3). Every cycling distance in MoveStory is then shown corrected. Your data in Apple Health isn't changed.
Choose the look in Settings › Look. The meadow follows the seasons and blooms as you move; Dusk is the original night sky. Choosing Dusk also switches the app icon to the original dusk icon (iOS shows a short notice when the icon changes).
Journeys are an optional extra: your distance moves you along a real route such as Prague → Vienna or the Camino de Santiago. Turn them on in Settings › Extras › Journeys.
The ☕️ button offers optional tips through the App Store. They're one-off, unlock nothing, and every feature is free for everyone. For refunds, see Apple's page Request a refund for apps or content.
MoveStory only reads from Apple Health, never writes to it, and your data never leaves your iPhone. See the Privacy Policy.
