Is CarStory free?
Yes. CarStory is free for one vehicle, with every feature included. The one-time Unlimited Garage purchase lets you add as many vehicles as you own. There is no subscription.
I bought Unlimited Garage but the app asks me to buy it again.
Open Settings in CarStory and tap Restore Purchases (it's also on the purchase screen). Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to buy it. The purchase works on all your devices with that Apple Account.
Your data
How does sync between my devices work?
CarStory syncs through your own private iCloud. Sign in to the same Apple Account on each device and make sure iCloud is on. On a new device, give it a moment after the first launch — your garage appears once iCloud has downloaded it. The sync status is shown in Settings → Sync.
How do I back up my data?
In Settings → Backup, tap Export all data and save the file to Files or iCloud Drive. Restore from backup replaces your current data with the file's contents (on all devices that sync with iCloud), so export a fresh copy first if you're unsure.
How do I delete my data?
Delete a vehicle from its page (… → Delete Vehicle). To remove everything, delete the app, and remove its iCloud data in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → CarStory.
Vehicles & service
Can I switch between miles and kilometres, or change the currency?
Yes, in CarStory's Settings. Your data is converted automatically; nothing is lost when you switch.
Why do some service items say "not tracked"?
CarStory doesn't guess when a used car was last serviced. Open the item and log its last service (or tap the check mark when you do it next), and the countdown starts from there.
VIN decoding didn't fill in my car's details.
VIN decoding uses NHTSA's free U.S. database, which fully covers vehicles sold in the United States. Many European and older vehicles decode only partially — just fill in the missing fields yourself. VINs from 1981 onward have 17 characters and never contain the letters I, O or Q.
Why don't I see recalls for my car?
Recall checks use NHTSA's database, which covers vehicles sold in the United States only, and require the exact make and model name NHTSA uses. For cars sold elsewhere, check with the manufacturer or your country's road-safety authority.
Reminders
I'm not getting service reminders.
Check that Settings → Reminders is on in CarStory and that notifications are allowed for CarStory in iOS Settings → Notifications. Reminders appear for items that are due soon or overdue — keep the odometer up to date (logging fuel does this automatically).
